1 in 110: Autism Spectrum Resources for Families
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 110 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum. Youth Services Staff has compiled a list of autism spectrum resources for families. The best place to start, if you suspect your child might be on the spectrum, is to have your child screened. The earlier your child starts therapies, the better. If your child is under age three there are two local agencies, South Bay Early Intervention and Thom Anne Sullivan Center, that provide screening services. If your child is age three or older, contact the Lowell Public Schools for assistance.

The library maintains that it is up to the parent/legal guardian to determine proper treatment for his/her child. This blog is solely a place of information for the huge array of materials related to Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Behavioral Health Tool Kit
The Autism Treatment Network of Autism Speaks has created another tool kit, the Behavioral Health Treatments Tool Kit. The aim of the kit is to help parents encourage desirable behaviors and discourage problem behaviors.

Financial Assistance for ASD Families
From the MA SPED Child and Teen online newsletter:
The Helping Hand Program from the National Autism Association (NAA) provides families with financial assistance in getting necessary medical treatments, testing, supplements and behavioral therapy services for their child or adult with autism. Applications are being accepted from now until July 31st, 2012.
Do not apply if you are seeking funds for camp tuition, respite care, fencing, trampolines, swingsets, trips to Disney World, etc. This program is intended ONLY for parents in DIRE financial need. Do not apply if your annual income exceeds $50,000. Allocated funds are paid directly to the service providers. The Northeast Arc is offering a free workshop about Mass Health. This workshop provides a general overview of Mass Health including frequently asked questions, questions about the application process, and how to determine if your family qualifies.

Summer Super Special Kids Program
Calling
all Special Needs kids and their families! Come join us for a super
time. We’ll share stories, sing songs, move and groove and do other fun
things. At the end of the session there will be time for families to
visit and a snack will be provided. If your child has food allergies or
food sensitivities we encourage you to bring his own preferred snack.
Siblings are always welcome. Meeting Dates: Wednesday, July 18th and

and beach? Join us on Wednesday, June 27 from 11:30am - 4:00pm for lunch,
swimming, friends, and bouncy house fun at this great venue!

free, private event includes a lunch of burgers, hot dogs, corn, chips, melon,
cookies, and lemonade and iced tea. In addition to swimming in the
pond, families can have fun playing outdoor games, playing on the jungle
gym, and jumping around in the bouncy house!
